Default mySQL Pentaho error: Could not create deployment: file:/pentaho-demo/jboss/...

I went here and downloaded the Pentaho demo for mySQL 5:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=537607

I unpacked it, moved it to a folder in the root directory called pentaho-demo, ran the sql file (it executed properly), configured email and publish following the directions here:
    http://wiki.pentaho.org/display/Pent...d+Installation

I then tried to start the server by running start-pentaho.sh, and everything seemed to be working fine until it hit the following error. I did a lot of searching around and couldn't find any answers (at least ones I was capable of understanding), so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone had any advice. I'm sure this is one of the most common things people run into - am I not installing the right package, or did I configure something wrong, or did I fail to configure something, or was there something for Java I was supposed to install, or what is going on?

    READOUT FOLLOWS:

    sh start-pentaho.sh

The number one problem is here:

    Code:
18:51:06,708 INFO [ServerInfo] Java version: 1.4.2,Free Software Foundation, Inc.
    This release requires Java 1.5.

If after you remedy that, there are still problems, here are a few more guesses:
    * Check jboss/server/default/log/server.log for additional information.
    * Does the user with whom you are starting the platform have write access to pentaho-demo and subdirectories?

Aha! I'll see about upgrading Java then and see if that fixes the problem. Yes, I was running as root, so there shouldn't be any troubles related to insufficient write privileges.

    Hi,

This post may be better read with the enlarged view.
I am experiencing the same problem and found out what was wrong in my case : the use of special characters in the path
Here are two paths created with a simple copy/paste:
    C:\programmes\standalone\pentaho_demo_hsqldb-1.6.0.GA.863\pentaho-demo\start-pentaho.bat
    C:\programmes\standalone\pe[ntaho_demo_hsqldb-1.6.0.GA.863\pentaho-demo\start-pentaho.bat
The first script runs well when the second fail with the above error message (ERROR [MainDeployer] Could not create deployment: file:...)
    Configuration : Windows XP Pro SP2 + Pentaho-demo hsql v1.6.0.GA.863

    a+, =)

    Hi

I have the same issue with the 1.6 platform; this is the the output of the start-pentaho.sh:

    myuser@MyPC:~/pentaho-demo$ ./start-pentaho.sh

Note that i've java 1.6 installed.
I put the pentaho-demo in my home directory, and have all permissions on the files.
My Linux version is Ubuntu 7.10; on Feisty, after upgrading java version to 1.6, it works good. What could be wrong now?

    Thanks in advance

    Alex
