    Default To get to start - please help me

    I really want to use Mondrian - but it seems hard. Need to connect Mondrian to MySql (own data - not a demo data.)

    Have installed:
    * jre1.5.0_06
    * mondrian-2.4.2.9831
    * jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28

    After installations - tried to get Mondrian open http://localhost:8080/mondrian but nothing happend.

    Of course there are millions of reasons why it doesnt seems to work.

    This is what Im wondering:

    explode lib/mondrian.war to TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/mondrian"
    or
    explode lib/mondrian-embedded.war to TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/mondrian-embedded

    I found mondrian.war and copied it to Tomcat 5.0/webapps/mondrian/ (mondrian I created)

    Nothing still happens whe I hit http://localhost:8080/mondrian - or I mean this happens:

    HTTP Status 404 - /mondrian

    type Status report
    message /mondrian
    description The requested resource (/mondrian) is not available.
    Apache Tomcat/5.5.17

    Hi,

    Go through the mondrian installation at the following link.
    http://mondrian.pentaho.org/document...stallation.php
    You need to configure some files in mondrian/web-inf.

    Thanks

    Hi Sreelatha

    Thanks for encouraging...

    I read that manual and I tried and I tried but it didn't worked

    I found Mondrian installation guide very difficult to understand!

    I heard from Roy on Cube Designer forum that Mondrian is embedded to Pentaho Platform - do I already have Mondrian, atleast I have Pentaho Platform - really confusing!?

    What I'm looking for is to get more sophisticated cubes than what I get using Cube Designer. Calculated members for example.

    I have problem to get date dimension. There is only one date field (ddmmyyyy) on my db - so how to get dimension:
    - Year
    - - Quartal
    - - - Month
    - - - - Week

    Using calculated members?

    Is it Mondrian I need or workbench?

    About Installing Mondrian;

    Is it that it takes only two steps?

    1) Install Tomcat?

    2) "From the unzipped binary release, explode lib/mondrian.war to TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/mondrian"

    --> what this means?

    Thanks
    Juuso

    This means you can unzip the file mondrian.war into the tomcat directory webapps/mondrian. I'm not sure if this is 100% correct because if using JBossAS instead of Tomcat the directory have to be called deploy/maondrian.war instead of deploy/mondrian.

    Mondrian OLAP Engine is embedded with Pentaho Platform.
    Mondrian Cube Designer is not.
    Mondrian Workbench is not.
    Calculated members for example.
    To create a calculated member I use an editor like notepad++ on a cube designed with Cube Designer. Assuming a line in the fact table is a stuff bought by a client, It would looks like :
    Code:
    <Measure name="somme des quantites" column="quantite" aggregator="sum" datatype="Integer" formatString="Standard"/>
    <Measure name="nombre de clients" column="idclient" aggregator="distinct count" datatype="Integer" formatString="Standard"/>
    <CalculatedMember name="quantite par client" dimension="Measures" formula="([Measures].[somme des quantites]/[Measures].[nombre de clients])" />
    I have problem to get date dimension. There is only one date field (ddmmyyyy) on my db - so how to get dimension:
    - Year
    - - Quartal
    - - - Month
    - - - - Week
    I had same thing to do and created a time dimension table with id=ddmmyyyy year=yyyy quarter=q month=mm day=dd feeded with an ETL.
    Using calculated members?
    I don't think so, creating a time dimension table and then the time hierarchy would be sufficient.
    Is it Mondrian I need or workbench?(...)
    If you mean "Mondrian OLAP Engine or Mondrian Workbench" I would answer Mondrian Workbench as it allows to edit the XML when editing an XML with an engine is a nonsense.

    Hope this helps,

    a+, =)
