Default Err when importing XML from 2.5

    Hi -
I tried importing a full xml document from version 2.5 into 3.0RC1 and I get an NPE. See http://jira.pentaho.org/browse/PDI-344.

Can you make that screen shot a bit smaller, I can almost see what's written on it.
Oh, and please make a scree shot of the stack trace too ;-)

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Post getXML Data

I attached the modified Plugin (i thinkh it will replace XML Input Path Plugin).
We renamed it "getXMLData" because it allow to :

1- get data from files (like XMLInputPath plugin)
    2-Parse input Field

I will (or maybe Matt) port it to 3.0 plugin.

Listen, I don't mind fixing bugs, but the awful bug reporting... it just becomes too much at times.
Try to put yourself in the shoes of the developers. Please try it, for just once.

Then next time, consider twice before putting useless screenshots up here and posting binary files as ".txt".

Think about it please! Sometimes it feels like you don't want to get helped!
Usually problems like this take exactly 2 minutes to fix. Just post a simple (text file!!!) stack trace will you?
Heck, copy-paste it into the forum will do nicely.

    Thanks a lot.

    Samatar,

Here are a few links to ported plugins, including source code:

    http://wiki.pentaho.org/display/EAI/...ation+Plug-Ins

I can't port your "XPath" plugin because I didn't get the source code.
Besides, if you changed the ID, it will no longer load or the repository will no longer import like microdisney found out.

    ;-)

    Hi Matt,

I would like to replace XMLInputPath plugin by getXMLData plugin.
That's why i will port only getXMLData to 3 !
We will have the 2 plugins in 2.4-2.5 and only the getXMLData in 3.

People must update their trans (like i did :-)

    XMLInputPath is deprecated!

    Hi Samatar,

I'm not saying this is good or bad (microdisney would think it's bad ;-)).
I'm saying that you are the owner of the plugins and you can do with it as you please.

That being said, typically, when you deprecate a step, you tell people in advance.

    All the best,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,
    I know it's bad to rename :-)
We have changed a lot of things and it's a new life for this plugin.
I will update the Wiki page.

    Thanks

    Hi Matt –
I deeply apologize for the first screen shot. I admit that it was poor bug reporting on my part. When it’s late I sometimes don’t realize how tired I am and tend to get a bit lazy. However, I really don’t understand why you are receiving binary data form the .txt file. I am able to open it fine. Furthermore, it is certainly not my intent to antagonize you or any other developer with trivial issues. In fact the opposite is true. I always attempt to make certain that the issue I am reporting on is warranted before any consideration is made to report the error. In any case I certainly can appreciate where you are coming from and I don’t take your comments personally nor do I take for granted your contributions to the forums. I’m sure you’ve better things to do with your time. I "tried to put myself in your shoes" (though I’d never be able to fit into them) and came to the conclusion that it was a poor choice on my part to post in the forum in the first place. Please see the official JIRA case
    http://jira.pentaho.org/browse/PDI-344.

    And as always,
    THANK YOU !! J

    Hi Darrin,

Don't worry about it, this was more of a <sigh> moment.
    Thanks for the bug report!

    All the best,

    Matt
