Smile Connect string for Pentaho report designer in SQL Server 2005

    Hi,

I am trying to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database so far I can't figure out the connect string to do so.
SQL Server 2005 and Pentaho report designer are both installed on my local machine.

    I am using :
    connect string: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=pentaho

When I try to connect I am getting the message: " Could not establish connection: Bad URL".

    Thanks for your help

    Cheers

Default MS SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver.

First, my congratulations to the Pentaho Team for Stable version 2. You have made terrific efforts specially in easy of use and administration. I'm quite excited with this community release, since I've been testing Pentaho from a time now, and honestly, previous releases were for Java gurus and developers, more than BI and Database guys.

Regarding my question, this seems to be a very popular one. I searched the forums, but I did not find a clear answer for it, sorry for that...

I'm testing Pentaho Bi Suite 2.0, repository to be in Hibernate (there's a know issue when repository is in MySQL), and would like to create a star schemma in MySQL 5.1 which will be populated using Kettle from a production MS SQL Server 2005 OLTP database.

I've just downloaded MS SQL 2005 JDBC driver version 1.2.2 and I'm wondering how to install it in order to be seen by Kettle (as the source of OLTP data) and also from Pentaho Administration Console in order to create a new datasource.

The driver is a zip file with a DLL and and a JAR file mainly.

Any help on deploying the driver will be appreciated.

I'll be posting my findings to the forum in English and Spanish if needed.

    Thank you

    Michael

I answer myself this time... Just dropped the .jar file in each LIB folder or JDBC folder I found and I have connectivity to MS SQL 2K5 from:

    - Admin Console
    - Data Integrator
    - Report Designer
    - Metadata Manager

This is going to be a lot of fun!!!
