Smile Kettle v3.0.0.RC2 crashes from the preview window

    Hi,

I am experiencing unpredictable crashes with Kettle v3.0.0.RC2 20071025 release.
I am currently working on a transformation that works with v2.5.2 but not in v3.0.0.RC2.
The crashes are not the thing that is not working.
    The crashes are bonuses...
The crashes always happen when I start a transformation from the preview window, but I it does not always crash.
I have difficulties to reproduce them.
Is there a way to log what happens ?

    a+, =)

I assume (!) that you are working on Windows.
If so (in Spoon.bat) put a "pause" command behind the last command and change "start javaw" to simply "java".

That should show you the problem in a dos-box console.

Feel free to try the real RC2 though. We have been fixing problems like crazy :-)

Thansk, I am working on Windows XP SP2, I am experiencing same behaviour with v3.0.0.RC2.
The last thing displayed in the dos-box console window is :
    -Insertion dans table.0 - Connected to database [[the][name][of][my][connexion][is][like][this]] (commit=1000)
When I am writing this, Kettle is crashed, processor has no activity, and Spoon's Window is a graphical mix between another window and blank. The mouse have the hour-glass cursor when I move my mouse over. Nothing else to do than closing Kettle?

Try to make your transformation as small as possible while still exhibiting the problem, and then attacht the transformation to this thread.

No other error messages? Are you using ODBC? Which kind of database?

So when you mean that kettle "crashed" you actually mean that the transformation stalls?
i guess that if it really crashed we would have seen a stack trace.

    Hi,

I manage to do both stalling and crashing from the preview window.
Here is the end of my spoon.bat file :
    start java %OPT% org.pentaho.di.ui.spoon.Spoon %_cmdline%
    pause
Kettle still crashes and close all windows related, how to get a log file ?
I can reproduce crash by checking box "Stop temporary the transformation on condition" with condition myfield IS NULL.

Raise a JIRA tracker for it.
