Is it intended that the Value Mapper functions differently (or maybe
it is the same but with different results) if a "Target Field Name" is
specified or not? (I'm referring to Spoon UI field names)

When the "Target Field Name" is left blank, the contents of "Fieldname
to Use" are modified according to the matches found in the "Source
Value" and "Target Value" lists. If a value in the "Fieldname to Use"
does not match any value in the "Source Value" list, it remains in the
data row as is (which is a good thing). If a "Default Upon Non-
Matching" value is specified, then it is replaced.

When the "Target Field Name" is given a value, the contents of
"Fieldname to Use" are modified according to the matches found in the
"Source Value" and "Target Value" lists, the new value is placed in
the new "Target Field Name" column and the original value remains as
is in the "Fieldname to Use". If a value in the "Fieldname to Use"
does not match any value in the "Source Value" list, the "Target Field
Name" value is set to blank unless a "Default Upon Non-Matching" value
is specified, then it is replaced.

Is there a way (short of making a copy of the original column first
and then mapping on it) to get this new "Target Field Name" value set
to the original "Fieldname to Use" value in the case of a non-match
instead of either blank or a static default text value?

I believe there is validity in all three output possibilities but
currently can only accomplish two of them. Is there a syntax I can
use to put a variable name in the "Default Upon Non-Matching" field
that would be interpreted instead of taken as a string value?

Thanks,
