    Default ReportDesigner hang on startup

    Good evening,

    In a late try I have installed ReportDesigner on my Ubuntu 7.10 (with jdk 1.5 , installed before for Pentaho 1.6 platform, which run well).
    When I launch the shell script ./startdesigner_linux.sh , it loads somethings then the window for ReportDesigner open , but no more things occured.

    On the script, the path built before launching is OK, then the java command apparently hang, but I don't know why ..

    Could somebody can help me

    Thanks for your help

    Benoit

    Hi all,

    Thanks first of all to the BPM team for their great support .

    The solution for the Ubuntu 7.10 64 bits is to install the package Java 1.6 and all work perfectly ...

    So I hope that it will help new people in having fun with Pentaho platform ...

    Default Clue to solve your problem

    Good evening,

    Do you have other install of java onto your platform ?
    For example if you type "which java" what is the response ? Is the path shown is the one where you install the 1.6 java package.
    If the answer is no, then just add the path of the /bin path from your 1.6 java package installation to the environment variable PATH :

    export PATH=<Path to java 1.6>:$PATH

    Then if you type "which java" you will have the correct way for pentaho to search the correct java platform.

    Do not hesitate to come back to me if you need too.

    Default my java installation

    Thank you for your attention.

    my "which java" output is
    /usr/bin/java

    but "ls -l /usr/bin/ja*" gives
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2007-10-23 12:35 /usr/bin/java -> /etc/alternatives/java
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 2007-10-25 12:42 /usr/bin/java_vm -> /etc/alternatives/java_vm
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2007-10-25 12:42 /usr/bin/javaws -> /etc/alternatives/javaws

    is it normal?
    what have I to do?

    thnx

    As your "java" command reported itself as JRE 1.6, you can be sure that you have JRE1.6 installed.

    Your troubles probably come from the JDBC driver collection. A formal prerequisite to write JDBC drivers must be, that the applicant has a maximized inability to create sane Java-Code. On my Ubuntu install, the driver registration also hangs. Deleting all the drivers you dont need usually solves the problem and speeds up the start-up.

    I heavily suspect that either the SQL-Lite driver (which contains a native library) or the jaybird/firebird driver (which contains the java-standard packages javax.resource, javax.transaction and javax.sql, which must never be part of a Non-JDK jar) causes the troubles.

    Thumbs down The Same Problem

    I have the same problem.

    I have no problem running:

    java version "1.5.0_12"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_12-b04, mixed mode, sharing)

    Examples: Jboss, Pentaho, Netbeans, Eclipse, etc.

    pentaho-report-design-wizard-1.2.1.423.GA works OK.

    But pentaho-report-design-wizard-1.6.0.GA-667 freezes.

    Thanks,
    Eric
