Thread: Bursting to File(system)

  1. #1

    Default Bursting to File(system)

    I was under the impression although I could be way off the mark that there is a relatively undocumented feature that lets you burst to a file that looks something like this....

    Code:
      <outputs>
        <content type="content">
        <destinations>
        <file>/report.xls</file>
        </destinations>
        </content>
      </outputs>
    But every time I try it I get told this....

    Code:
    OAPLJNL.xaction Scope file is not recognized for parameter /report.xls
    Did I miss a step here?

    Cheers

    Hi tom,

    I found an old post from Doug there the tag looks like this:

    Code:
    <outputs>
        <report_out type="content">
          <destinations>
            <file>/xyz/report_{user_id}_date.pdf</file>
          </destinations>
        </report_out>
    </outputs>

    Give it a try.

    Regards,
    Ingo

    Thanks for the reply Ingo,

    I can't get it to work no matter what I change, I even tried a sample one that someone offered up as a working model(jdixon I believe) and that didn't work either, I've also tried different directories and someone else suggested file:/path/to/file. Its always the same error, I was hoping to grill Doug over it on IRC but missed him. I was wondering how there is no documentation whatsoever, I have also been advised to write a java servlet to write to hard disk, but a) I haven't a clue how and b) I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

    Ho Hum

    Doug says and I quote....

    The <action-output> parameter for the report component CANNOT be named report-output (strange I know) and must match the output name -
    in this example - report_out

    Right so I figured that....

    Code:
      <outputs>
    <report_out type="content">
    <destinations>
    <file>/root/file.xls</file>
    </destinations>
    </report_out>
    </outputs>
    and

    Code:
        <action-definition>
          <component-name>JFreeReportComponent</component-name>
          <action-type>report</action-type>
          <action-inputs>
            <output-type type="string" mapping="outputType"/>
            <data type="result-set" mapping="query_result"/>
          </action-inputs>
          <action-resources>
            <report-definition type="resource"/>
          </action-resources>
          <action-outputs>
            <report-output type="content" mapping="report_out"/>
          </action-outputs>
          <component-definition/>
        </action-definition>

    Would suffice, but I still get the same error. I then tried changing

    Code:
          <action-outputs>
            <report-output type="content" mapping="report_out"/>
          </action-outputs>
    to

    Code:
          <action-outputs>
            <report_output type="content" mapping="report_out"/>
          </action-outputs>
    Clutching at straws I know and it just blew out.
    Argh.

    What am I not getting here?

    Cheers

    I looked at your action sequence and noticed that you were using report-output for the <action-output> parameter for the report component. In order to have the component be beckward compatble with old action sequencs, the <action-output> CANNOT be named report-output (strange I know) and must match the output name in the <outputs> section.
