    Default Running Spoon on UNIX

    Hi,
How can we use Spoon's GUI feature in UNIX?
Also, is it possible to develop the transformation using GUI and run on the UNIX, without being manually deploying to code to UNIX

    Thanks,
    -Amit

Some of the developers solely run Linux and not Micro$oft

You lost me with deploying... if you run the GUI on UNIX the .ktr files will also appear on UNIX.

Hunch... you run a very old shell that doesn't support 'export VARIABLE=value' ... but can only do 'VARIABLE=value; export VARIABLE' which would give your error.

Also try losing the sh and do a chmod 755 spoon.sh and just execute spoon.sh

And finally what kind of unix, type and version do you want to run spoon on?

    Regards,
    Sven

I have "Kettle-3.0.0" installed and spoon.sh has the execute permission.
If i use "ksh spoon.sh" command i get different error.

    $ksh spoon.sh
Error: Couldn't find per display information

I am using Sun-Solaris UNIX box.

A damned old version of Solaris then or as root or something like that..

ksh seems to work but you have to set your DISPLAY variable... something like

    Code:
    DISPLAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0
    export DISPLAY
    ksh spoon.sh
Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your local IP address of your PC. Possibly you have to xhost + some stuff....

If you get stuck on those kind of problems I would not recommend running spoon on Unix and happily stay on Windozes.

Make sure to use 2.5.2 or 3.0.x because there have been problems reported on older Solaris versions.
It had something to do with limitations in the X-Windows implementation.
