Thread: Mondrian's License

    Default Mondrian's License

I would like to develope a comercial XMLA client. This client could run with any MDX OLAP server. In case of using Mondrian server, what about my client license?

Mondrian's license (CPL) is considered to be a commercial-friendly license, that imposes few restrictions if you embed it in a commercial application. And generally, interacting with a piece of software over a network connection (such as SOAP/HTTP) imposes fewer restrictions than if you invoke it in the same process.

That said, I am not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice. If you want to know what the license really means, read it, and if you don't understand it, engage a lawyer.

If you are developing the XMLA client in Java, have you considered using olap4j? olap4j will shortly offer a common API to multiple OLAP servers, including XMLA drivers, and it will be released under a commercial-friendly open-source license.
