    Default Next versions

In the Jira, i see that there is a version 1.7.M1 and 1.8.M1 comming up.

What is the difference between these versions? Why to versions in parallel?

If i am looking for a bug fix version of 1.6.2 what version should i be looking to?

1.8, 1.7 will have been the testing branch I assume before 1.8 goes stable. Any regardless of how your downloading and compiling 1.8 is on sourceforge so go with that

There's now a 1.7GA in jira too. So that seems to imply 1.7 is a full proper version.

1.8 is just a package of all the tools together in one place. Confusing!

Unfortunately, a couple of conflicting needs have introduced some new complexity into the versioning, which we will have resolved for the next major release. After much deliberation, the basic statement of direction ended up as follows:

1.7.0 was intended as a release whose main objective was to upgrade the pillar engines (Kettle 3.0.x, Mondrian 3.0.x, and Reporting 0.8.9.x) into the platform, which has been sorely needed by many of our larger clients and the community overall. This had a significant impact on the Metadata editor and was further complicated by the escalation of several customer cases which were necessary to get into a GA stream and relied on some of the new engine enhancements. Given the magnitude of changes in 1.6.0 GA, calling the sync-up release 1.8.0 would have set unrealistic expectations for the features that folks might be expecting to see.

Simultaneously, we needed to react to some of the feedback from some large potential opportunities about the complexity associated with evaluating our solution (the "okay, now what do I have to download?" threads) and created the "Reporting Evaluation" package, which contains significant ease-of-use improvements and packaging, and is now available prominently on the web site. We had originally hoped that this would be largely a build exercise on top of the 1.8 milestones, but the level of customization and deviation from the desired direction of the trunk eventually forced us to back this into an "eval_1.7.7" branch until the trunk has evolved sufficiently to permit the evaluation packages to be built less painfully.

The current trunk, presently labeled 1.8.0, contains both the pillar engine upgrades and the ease-of-use enhancements from the evaluation package and is on track to be an exciting release for us this year.

The most stable place to evaluate the version 3 engines is in the 1.7 code line, which has a look and feel based on the 1.6 product.

The 1.8 nightlies are less stable (duh) but have the ease-of-use enhancements built into them if that's what you're interested in working with.

The version numbering standard and pillar integration strategy are presently under review to eliminate this kind of confusion in the future. Apologies to all who were confused and thanks for your continuing support as a community.

Default Version details needed for Report Design Wizard

    Hi,

I had downloaded the source for Report Design Wizard from http://source.pentaho.org/svnroot/pe...twizard/trunk/
and had made a few code changes.

I have logged a case at JIRA for fix version 1.7. Is it the right version or is it some other version.
Further, can you guide me as to how I can find out what version of source does the trunk contain.

    Thanks and Regards,
