Default Mondrian / WorkBench / CubeDesigner

    Hi,

First I am completely confused with all three of these:

    Mondrian / WorkBench / CubeDesigner

Can someone please help me with the purpose of each of these? Are these all necessary to create and deploy a decent analysis OLAP?

I tried Mondrian and unzipped the .war file to the tomcat\webapps\mondrian directory........ But the web.xml file has no string that the document mentions to replace........

    So thats my try one.....

The workbench documentation says to put the database jdbc drivers to the drivers folder. The issue is there is no such folder and even after i did create a folder drivers in the workbench directory the system wont come up........

    try two......

CubeDesigner does not connect to the database , any database. What must i use if i have a simple access database to work with?

    try three......

Can someone please throw some light on the entire cube generation process in a more simpler terms. Your help will be mucho appreciated......

From the top then, if your interested in the whole reporting setup or want to do more than just mondrian in the long run I'd suggest you install the Pentaho demo installation, its relatively painless, but if you just interested in Mondrian, then your on your own cause I've not done a standalone install, although I guess there's plenty of docs on it.

The latter part of the question, Workbench or Cubedesigner, you only really need one or the other, personally I use CubeDesigner to create quick and easy cubes cause its easier than workbench and then I just hack the xml in vim, but workbench is far more powerful. Workbench is underconstruction so expect a better package soon.

On a final note, why does everyone try and use access as a backend database its not what it's designed for and is a pain in the ass, but if you must you need a copy of the jdbc to odbc bridge driver.
