    Default Which version in 1.7?

Hi, hopefully a quick question. Which version of reporting is hoped to be included in v1.7 of the BI Server?

    0.8.9.5? or the bigger 0.8.10?

    Thanks!

    0.8.9-4!

0.8.9-5 and also 0.8.10 will be finished in the second week of may (I'm still hunting bugs, so that date is a safer bet than the "end of month" or "first week of may" I stated before), while the GA date for the platform is also mid-may. There is no way how we could safely integrate the wanna-be release of 0.8.9-5 into the platform before the release. To get 0.8.10 into the platform, there are even more changes needed. The coding side is easy, Mike (D'Amour) did that within a couple of hours, but as that release is a biiiiiiiiiiig change in both API and internal processing, we would not be able to guarantee the stability of the platform with just a few days between the release of the engine and the platform.

0.8.9-5 will be integrated a.s.a.p. after the 1.7.x-GA release.

In the meantime, Platform 1.8.x will run with the 0.8.10 release of the engine. At the same time, the report designer will make its transition from 1.7.x (with 0.8.9.x of the engine) to 1.8.x (and 0.8.10 of the engine). This is a major change, as the engine now feeds the designer with meta-data directly. At the same time, the old SWT based Report-Design wizard will be replaced by a round-trip-engineering-enabled Swing Wizard, that uses the new unified fileformat for everything (as does the report-designer). At that point, the publish will no longer create XML files that cannot be safely edited by the designer; and the wizard accepts any report-definition as template file. No more Simple-XML or extended-XML, just one fileformat to rule them all

However, these changes are big, and potentially dangerous (as we tend to add bugs along with the features, as - geeky as we are, - we love the challenge to hunt the bugs later ). So we could not add them to the 1.7 branch of the platform and claim that the thing could be stable at the same time.
