Thread: Closing automatically

    Default Closing automatically

May the problem looks strange but its real and again that happens only on Linux machine [Ubuntu].
While running the transformation Keetle closes automatically. I have no clue at what particular point its closing. May be its getting some error while connecting database or reading the file, I have no idea.

I don't know if this is a known problem, but I didn't find anything in the forum. Is there any way to save the log or somehow I can trace the issue?

    thanks

If it crashes look ... start up spoon.sh from the shell command line, after the crash you should find a file ending on ".log" in the directory where you started/installation directory of Kettle.

I tried to run spoon.sh from command line by "sh spoon.sh". But it ends up with an error as

Exception in thread "main" org.eclipse.swt.SWTError: No more handles [gtk_init_check() failed]
    at org.eclipse.swt.SWT.error(Unknown Source)
    at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.createDisplay(Unknown Source)

    at org.pentaho.di.ui.spoon.Spoon.main(Spoon.java:367)

Is there something I have to configure?

Since I develop Kettle under Ubuntu, I would probably need a bit more information as well.
Why don't you file a bug report?

First of all I have to search for how to report a bug and I will do that anyways.
But if you need some more information you can ask.

    Thanks

The problem has come up with a number of people on this forum lately, strangely all from India.
Could it be that you guys are running some specialized version of Ubuntu that doesn't install X-Windows?

It seems obvious to most of us that you need a Graphical User Environment to run the Spoon Graphical User Interface though.
Maybe you just need permissions to create a shell in the environment, running as a different user, etc.
However, these things are not solvable by any of us.

    Thanks,
    Matt

I'll check if that is installed, but I was running Kettle from Ubuntu UI.
I mean I was not running that from terminal.
