    Default Repository connection fails

    I am using Kettle-2.5.0 and MYSQL 5.1.
I have created a Repository on a local machine (say X) and my transformation uses Tables of Server (say Y).
lets say my job has a sleeping period of 3 minutes, for first interval it runs fine but after that in mean time of 3 minute if i restarted my local machine's server (X) .The job throws an exception becaause it could not connect to repository

Is there any way through which the repository can be reconnected without manually trying to do so .

    Plz help

It's probably your server that times out:

Well... properly shutdown all of your applications before you do a server reboot.

Automatic reconnecting (mostly for steps) has been discussed several times, the problem with automatic reconnecting is that when you're somewhere in a transaction and you automatically reconnnect you've lost things... depending on exactly where the disconnect happens this may or may not be important. So it's better to just fail and have someone start again from a know state (manually).

    well Matt
i think it is not the problem of timeout of MYSQL basically the server where the repository are stored have been restarted and the job which is in sleeping period doesnot make a new connection it demands to restart the job again

lol ... it's because you shut down/restarted your database server in between. If you shoot yourself in the feet it's your problem

Automatically reconnecting is not a good idea.

I knew I should have stayed out of this discussion.

I'm going to lie down now.

    ok i got your point

basically we wanted to run a script so that at the start of the MYsQL we can restart the connection so the jobs.

Hey, here's a great idea: don't shut down the server!

Let me know where to send the invoice for my advice.

    ;-)
