    Default Repository on Ingres

    Hello all,

trying to create a repository in a Ingres2006 DB, i get an error saying:

Unable to create or modify table R_REPOSITORY_LOG

Couldn't execute SQL: CREATE TABLE R_REPOSITORY_LOG
    (
ID_REPOSITORY_LOG BIGINT PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL
    , REP_VERSION VARCHAR(255)
    , LOG_DATE DATE
    , LOG_USER VARCHAR(255)
    , OPERATION_DESC VARCHAR(2000000)
    )

CREATE or ALTER TABLE: invalid column format 'varchar' on column 'operation_desc'.

Connection test is ok, by the way.

    The Ingres documentation
    http://docs.ingres.com/sqlref/UnderstandingSQLDataTypes
    states:
The maximum row length is dependent on the default_page_size setting (a DBMS Server configuration parameter), and can be set to a maximum of 32,767 bytes. For further information on page and row size configuration, see the Database Administrator Guide .
The maximum length of a character column is limited by the maximum row width configured, but cannot exceed 32,000. Long varchar columns are an exception: the maximum length of these columns is 2 GB

If i understand this correctly OPERATION_DESC should be defined as "LONG VARCHAR" or in a length of maximum 32 000.

Am i right, am i wrong or do i do a stupid mistake ?

    thanks in advance

Ingres is dead, long live Ingres.

It seems no-one (or no-one that complained) tried to make a repository on Ingres.
Please raise a JIRA for this at http://jira.pentaho.org/browse/PDI

    Regards,
    Sven

    This should do it:

    CREATE TABLE R_REPOSITORY_LOG
    (
ID_REPOSITORY_LOG BIGINT PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL
    , REP_VERSION VARCHAR(255)
    , LOG_DATE DATE
    , LOG_USER VARCHAR(255)
    , OPERATION_DESC LONG VARCHAR
    );

Make a JIRA at http://jira.pentaho.org/browse/PDI and attach extra information over there.

    It's a bug-tracking for something

Hi. My first post to this forum.

I have exactly the same problem (should be LONG VARCHAR).

Unable to create or modify table R_REPOSITORY_LOG

Couldn't execute SQL: CREATE TABLE R_REPOSITORY_LOG
    (
ID_REPOSITORY_LOG BIGINT PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL
    , REP_VERSION VARCHAR(255)
    , LOG_DATE DATE
    , LOG_USER VARCHAR(255)
    , OPERATION_DESC VARCHAR(2000000)
    )

    Connection closed.

Where can I modify the generated DDL?

I've tried creating the table manually (no problem there), but the CREATE/Upgrade script seems to want to re-create the table again, so the error re-appears.

    Long live Ingres!

    Thanks
    Roger

Shouldn't it be "Ingres is dead, long live ingres" ... a JIRA was already raised for your problem, but it's not possible for the moment to change it yourself.

    Thanks Sven.

So if I understand you correctly, it is not currently possible to use Ingres for the repository??

Ingres never died, IMHO. It's a good RDBMS.

Sven: maybe you could help with this one too (today is my first day testing PDI).

I want to setup an SCD. If filled in the Dimension lookup/update entry form, but when I go to the SQL button to generate the dimension table, I get:

Unable to open dialog for this step

Any pointers - what am I doing wrong? I'll start a new thread if you cannot help out.

    Thanks
    Roger
