Default AS400 issue: How to turn on Autocommit

    Dear all,

I have a problem not able to insert data to AS400/DB2 by getting this error:
    Code:
    2008/07/08 18:08:36 - TOPAGTMTD.0 - ERROR (version 3.0.3, build 569 from 2008/04/25 12:30:04) : Because of an error, this step can't continue:
    2008/07/08 18:08:36 - TOPAGTMTD.0 - ERROR (version 3.0.3, build 569 from 2008/04/25 12:30:04) : Error inserting row into table [TOPAGTMTD] with values: [000013848], [000209610], [0], [0]
    2008/07/08 18:08:36 - TOPAGTMTD.0 - ERROR (version 3.0.3, build 569 from 2008/04/25 12:30:04) :
    2008/07/08 18:08:36 - TOPAGTMTD.0 - ERROR (version 3.0.3, build 569 from 2008/04/25 12:30:04) : Error inserting row
    2008/07/08 18:08:36 - TOPAGTMTD.0 - ERROR (version 3.0.3, build 569 from 2008/04/25 12:30:04) : [SQL7008] TOPAGTMTD in DOLSGTFLB1 not valid for operation.
Now based on the logs I think it is because the auto commit is off. Does anyone know how to turn on the auto commit on Kettle with Spoon?

    Many thanks

Funny ... How do you get to auto commit problems?

Based on your messages I get to http://www.websina.com/bugzero/faq/exception-as400.html

    Sven,

Thanks for the info. It works now. But I wonder why does Pentaho require us to journal our file in AS400?

Not explicitly... something in the SQL PDI executes probably triggers it. But most/all of the stuff is plain vanilla SQL, check your documentation or maybe ask your database vendor why you need journalling.

I believe Sven is right -- it's a requirement for an OS/400 file to be transparently surfaced as a DB2/400 table for journaling to be turned on. Has something to do with respecting transaction boundaries, I think. Not a Pentaho thing, more of a JDBC thing vis-a-vis OS/400.
