    Default kettle.properties problem with Oracle

    pdi 3.0.4 and Oracle 10g db.

    When connectiong to an Oracle 10g database via a service name (connection type 'Oracle' via Native JDBC), I have to prefix the service name with a slash ('/'). This works well when I define the Oracle connection from within Spoon. 'Database name' is entered like this:
    /<service name>.

    Next I've added a property to the kettle.properties file:
    ORA_DB = /<service name>
    and I've replaced the hard-coded Database name in the connection definition with variable ${ORA_DB}.
    This does not work. I get a connection error.

    However when I remove the slash from the properties file and add it to the 'Database name', it does work.
    So kettle.properties has a line that reads:
    ORA_DB = <service name> <--- no slash
    And the 'Database name' is entered like this (note the forward slash):
    /${ORA_DB}

    Am I missing something or is the variable from the properties file processed incorrectly when connection to an Oracle db?

    Try the nightly build of 3.1 ... I remember a fix in that area a while ago.

    Unfortunately not fixed in 3.1.
    (Not to mention that the GUI is rather unstable...)

    Raise a bug report at http://jira.pentaho.org/browse/PDI

    Any specific reason why you use a / in front of your service (I don't recall having to do that). There were some things changed in the Oracle connection area like http://jira.pentaho.com/browse/PDI-822 which may somehow impact you.

    For the rest of the instabilities... raise bug reports for what you see.

    Regards,
    Sven

    Same issue in 4.1 version. Thanks for the workaround!
