Default Where can I find a glossary?

    Hello there!

I'm new to PDI and Pentaho.

I wonder if anyone there knows where can I find a glossary or something like that, regarding the standar terms in PDI (transformation, job, step, hop, etc.).

    Thanks in advance,

    Luis

    In the docs!

    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/...+Documentation

You can also find PDF versions of almost everything in the "docs" directory of your PDI installation directory.

    Cheers!

    Tomas:

Thank you very much for your quick answer

However, could you please be more specific? I mean... where in the Documentation section can I find the terms... I have the PDI User Guide and some tutorials, but I didn't find a thing as a glossary yet.

    Regards,
    Luis

Well, there's no glossary I can remember, but all the information you are asking for is just one link deeper than the link I posted:

    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/Spoon+User+Guide

Then you can click for example on

    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/.06+Hops

And you get a nice answer. Seriously, any easier wouldn't even be any fun :P

Oh, I see... My worst fears have come true... (kidding).

I'm reding the User Guide. It's good, but for us newbies it would be great to have a kind of "map" or workflow on how things work in PDI...

So, I guess that in the future, maybe I can do it and suggest it as part of the documentation...

    Regards,
    Luis

PS: Yes, the harder the funnier... however, I don't have much time left to have fun ...

Yep, I know. I'm also just kidding.

But even though it may seem complex at first, there's not that much stuff to learn. Actually you probably named all the important parts in your original post...

Once you get the hang of creating your transformations or jobs by joining steps with hops, the big part is to learn what kind of steps are there and how to use them. And that is very well documented in the Spoon user guide.

Good to find people with sense of humour

And it's nice to see that I know the main stuff!!! So now I'll see the existing jobs and transformations... And who knows, maybe if I need to, I'll build some new ones in the future...

Talking seriously, thanks you very much for your assistance here...

    See you

    Luis

If you are 100% beginner, take a look at the tutorial
    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/...le%29+Tutorial

For specific doubts about Steps, you have this online documentation:
    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/...egration+Steps
    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/...on+Job+Entries

and, of course, all the resources that tomas mentioned,

    good luck!

    Thanks Maria!

I have seen and tried the steps mentioned in the tutorial... It's good (although I have left a message to you in it since I had some little problems... but never mind).

    See you
