Lightbulb Javascript variable persistance between rows

I have a input step that produces a few hundred rows. A particular column is null on certain rows. I would like to assign a value to this column from the last row that did not have a null value in that column.

Is there a way to do this in a transform? I was thinking of using the "Modified Java Script Value". However, it seems that the variables do not live between row instances.

    Any ideas?

Nice timing! I had to tackle that problem yesterday.

    I'm attaching an example.
