    Unhappy Consolidated documentation (i.e. pdf)

    Hi,
as far as i can see on the Pentaho site, thre is no consolidated documentation in a pdf or other format available, so that one can print it and read it offline. Appart from some usefull blogs, there is just "http://wiki.pentaho.com/label/EAI/documentation".
If there is some pdf oir similar on PDI, please let me know.
    Thanks, Patrick

aaaaaaaargh ... originally everything was in PDF format... but since 3.0 it has become a wiki.

I love the Wiki as it allows to walk from one topic to the next ones. It does lack detail on a lot of steps, though. (And I totally understand that documentation is the worst part of development - right after hunting bugs in libs.)

Maybe you'd consider delivering the wiki documentation in form of HTML - wget comes to mind in order to create that export...

An extract of the wiki is available as downloadable zip file.

Default How to export the PDI wiki to a PDF

Even better than that, the wiki software that Pentaho uses, Confluence, actually allows you to export sections of the wiki as a PDF. It takes some clicking to get just the "user manual" because you export a "Space" (in this case, the space is the entire portion of the wiki dedicated to PDI), and then you can select the individual pages you want.

    1. Go to the PDI section of the wiki
    2. Click the "Browse Space" sidebar option
    3. In that subsection of the sidebar, click "Advanced" to go to the Space Details page
    4. Click the Export Space link
    5. Select PDF as the export type
    6. Uncheck any pages you do not wish to be exported

The export takes two to three minutes, but the result is a well structured PDF with navigable table of contents.
