Thread: mail service report or analysis

Default mail service report or analysis

We have a project of mail service, which transfer millions of emails from different agents everyday.
Now the client proposes us to integrate some BI functions to the project.
In spite of the infrastructure of the mail server, the flux of the service is only about mail transformation

The client doesn’t gave any indicates to us, so we have to propose some KPI for them.

By analyse the flux of this, I can only figure out some analysis like
    The analysis:
analysis of Delay time (ex: good, acceptable, bad)
analysis of status(sent, reject, deffered ….)
    The report
    Report of spam email
    Report of postfix, cyrus email

Can’t figure out anymore, if anyone has done it before please help me.

The client proposes us to include some BI functionality..
sounds a bit ... strange. Its like saying "oh, and on top of that I want some cream please". What are the questions your client wants to have answered by the BI solution? Based on that, you can start extracting the data you neeed to answer those questions from the logs to build a data-warehouse (or at least some sort of database for reporting to work on).

If you just drop randomly collected data in your database, you get randomly sampled answers out of your solution. If they want KPIs, then they probably have some already in mind (if not, then you better hide the computer magazines with BI advertisement from their management ). And if everything fails: Ask them about their business process to understand what rules govern their business and what metrics decide whether they are making or losing money. And if they are not willing to tell you that, you better run, because no matter what solution you bring on, they will not be happy with it and start telling you they wanted something different.

yes , it's wired !maybe our customer just heard about something fantasic of BI , but they don't really get what need, so we have to propose some indicates to them.

Therefore, my boss also know little about BI, otherwise, he will never let a student in internship ,me , to get this job done!!

the data is just a example, all of them is like this way, a flux of email transformation
