Question Connecting to 3rd party cubes...

    Hi All,
I want to connect to SQL Server Analysis Service Cube through pentaho for reporting purposes. Is there any features in pentaho? Is there any ways to read data from 3rd party cube to pentaho as mentioned above. Please let me know your valuable ideas and suggestions!

    Thank You!

i think you can yes, reporting 3.5 supports any MDX data source. i.e. such as sqlserver analysis services.

    Default Connecting to SSAS 2005

    Hi
We too have the same problem, I want to connect from Report Designer 3.5 to SSAS SQL server 2005) cubes. How do I connect to the SSAS cubes? What should be my connect string? Can report designer report from a OLAP source such as SSAS?

Or can we create a cube in Mondrian which can read from SSAS cubes? How do we create the connection?

you can do that via an OLAP4J -XMLA datasource

try searching for olap4j + ssas + xmla

I was able to acces OLAP Data from a SqlServer SSAS 2008 server.

1st, you need to setup a IIS server as described here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/httpasws.mspx

Then in PRD, create a OLAP/OLAP4J connexion and use a Generic Database datasource:

    Ex:

    Custom Connection URL: jdbc:xmla:Server=http://localhost/olap/msmdpump.dll;Catalog=bpmretail
    Custom Driver Class Name: org.olap4j.driver.xmla.XmlaOlap4jDriver

Then, for the query, just use MDX

    Ex.:
select [Produits].[Dim Departements].Children ON ROWS, [Measures].[VP_Ventes] ON COLUMNS FROM [Retail]

    @ haubuchon :
have you experienced a weird issue with the msmdpump ? with my samples it was processing the cubes with every XMLA call i made

I haven't notice yet. I did not test really deeply so far. I'll keep you posted when I do so.

In Kettle 4, when i try to use OLAP input always get the error:

org.olap4j.OlapException: There is no catalog named GEE_DW available to query against.
