Default How can I manage role permissions?

    Hello everyone.

I would like to have a role that only is able to launch reports, not able to create them. For example, a user with role "Viewer" logs in into the user console and he cannot create new reports, he can only launch reports.

    How do I do that?

    Thanks in advance.

In the Pentaho BI Server, access control is per-object, meaning that it is enforced per folder or file. So there is no way to globally disallow a role from creating reports. Just focusing on a single folder, you would give Viewers the Execute permission and nothing else on that folder. You would need to make sure that the ACL for that folder doesn't have access control entries that give other roles for a given user the Write permission.

Expounding on the single folder idea, to get closer to your global "Viewers can't write" rule, you could use default ACLs which could apply ACLs in a batch mode. Note that this is destructive to the current ACLs!

Ok, thanks, mlowery. It could be a solution, I'll try.
