    Default PALO problem with pentaho report designer connection

    Hi,
    i have a problem when i tray to connect pentaho report designer with PALO,
    i'm added the file jpalo.jar to the lib of pentaho report designer but i have the same message error:

    I'm pretty sure this just means we do not ship with Palo by default. The Kettle installation in PRD is *not* a complete one, it only ships with the core libraries and some of the more commonly used steps.
    Copy the contents of kettle's lib-ext into PRD's lib and you get the remaining 40 or 50MB of jars.

    Oh, and I just looked at your stacktrace: Palo is *not* a SQL database so using the JDBC datasource will not work. If Palo has a Olap4J driver, you can use that, otherwise you need to use XML/A (must be configured in Palo, I guess, and then in PRD also accessed via Olap4J).

    i have tested the olap4j driver on palo and in PRD, but not both at the same time.... i'm pretty confident that this works

    palo xmla servlet lives under: http://localhost:4242/xmla .. by default (note that this is only a palo enterprise edition feature and won't work with the open source version)
    user/pw is admin/admin i think

    then you can use the db dialog for generic JDBC drivers in PRD and enter something like that:
    Driver: org.olap4j.driver.xmla.XmlaOlap4jDriver
    URL: jdbc:xmla:Server=http://localhost:4242/xmla
    User: admin
    Password = admin

    Properties:
    Catalog = Demo

    Query:
    select NON EMPTY ...... YOUR MDX QUERY ...from [YourCube]

    Pentaho reporting already ships with the OLAP4J core jars, so these three jars should already be part of your PRD lib directory.

    However, you still need the Palo-specific driver, which we of course cannot ship as we dont even know where to find it. Ask your support contact at Palo for that jar-file.

    Alternatively, use the XML/A access mode, which does not rely on Palo-classes (but of course you have to configure your Palo installation to offer a XML/A interface).

    Accessing PALO is currently only possible (out of the box anyway) via
    1) XMLA
    a) from PRD 3.6.1 : via the configuration i posted in my last comment
    b) from PDI 4.0 : via OLAP Input

    PALO XMLA is an Palo Enterprise feature
    For both you don't need to install any JAR's!!!

    2) Palo Kettle Plugin in PDI 4.0
    You can access dimensions and the facts of a PALO cube via the PALO API (you need to copy the jpalo.jar into your data-integration/libext folder for that)

    So within PRD you have those 2 possibilities to access Palo Cubes, either native XMLA or use a Kettle Transformation as Datasource

    Hi, I experienced a similar problem:

    Actually I am testing the new "OLAP input" transformation in Kettle 4.0.0.RC1 Build Date 2010-05-26 22.16.24 to get data from Palo 3.0 via XML/A, but with no success.

    My Palo XML/A servlet answers at
