Default Custom ETL plugin developer guide?

Does anyone know of a Pentaho guide to developing custom data integration transform plugins or have something you may have compiled? We have some very specific validators we want to build for re-use, but being new to Spoon/Kettle need some guidance in architecture and steps for creating such plugins.

    thanks in advance,
    Charles

A plugin development chapter will be part of this book:

Plug-in dev is quite easy, should take a few weeks to have the first POC based on your requirements. We started off with the standard plug-ins included like dummy plug-in source etc. and then used it to modify and build our API calls.

Of course, looking forward to the book for this and many other solutions....

    Default Really need a plugin?

I've developed a few plugins already, and most of the things I learned, I learned from checking out the Kettle sources and looking at the plugins that ship with Kettle, as well as the source of the dummy plugin.

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve, but maybe you don't need a full featured plugin. Maybe you want to look at this http://type-exit.org/adventures-with...entaho-kettle/

The article explains how to utilize existing Java classes from within Kettle transformations.

JS is fine but unfortunately quite slow. The new User Defined Java Class step available in PDI4 is another option: faster and convenient as well.

    Default "Getting started" Article

I created a small article that should help getting started with custom plugin development. It shows how to create a custom transformation step. Find the article here:

    Comments and corrections are welcome

    Cheers
