Default Problems Installing BI Server 3.8.0 as a service in Windows Server 2008 64bit

I am having problems getting Pentaho to run correctly on Windows Server 2008 64 bit. Here is the process I followed and the errors I am getting:

I ran the following command <pentaho install dir>\biserver-ce\tomcat\bin\service.bat install PentahoTest and it completed successfully. I checked the service and everything appeared normal. When I attempt to run the service I get the following error in the Windows event log:

I get this error in the tomcat log:

Googling this error lead me down the path that the Commons Daemon procrun (tomcat6.exe) packaged with pentaho is not 64bit.

I then found the 64bit version and put it in the bin directory and which allows the service to start correctly but not pentaho. You can see in the attached logs hibernate can’t connect to the data source or something with the user. Ideally I would rather use MySQL but I get the same error using it. I am attempting to do this right now with the default hsqldb to rule out any configuration issues. I get the same error whether MySQL is configured or not. The logs are from a configuration I tried without with an out of the box pentaho install only replacing the tomcat6.exe with the 64 bit version.

Any help/advise/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
