Exclamation Kettle 4.2.1 stable has been posted to SourceForge.net

Stable Builds of Pentaho Data Integration - Kettle version 4.2.1 have been published on SourceForge.net and are available for download.

Please try them out, report bugs and give feedback.

Stable builds represent the final stage of development for a Community Edition (CE) release. The term stable refers to a version of software that has been through enough community testing to reasonably assume there are no showstopper problems, or at least that any problems are known and documented. If you are going to put a CE release into production, you will want to use a stable build.

CE builds are not supported by Pentaho. If you require support or enterprise features, Pentaho Enterprise Edition (EE) may be the right chioce for you. EE evaluation software may be downloaded from http://www.pentaho.com/download. Pentaho Enterprise Editions extend Pentaho's open source business intelligence (BI) capabilities with additional software and support designed to save your organization time and resources.

    Default xlsx

Even if in the release notes it's written that Excel Input step now reads xlsx files, it still doesn't..right?

Yes, it does. Enable the POI xlsx engine in the "Excel Input" step.

Great, I didn't see it.. Why isn't it set by default? Is there a way to do it (more in general, to set the default preferences for a step)?

    Thanks,

    Iuri

We don't enable it by default because the POI engine is new and unproven. It has problem sometimes, for example with very large xlsx files.
It would be a shame to bring these problems into the picture for regular classic XLS parsing. Besides, figuring out that you can parse Excel files with the "Excel Input" step really isn't that big of a stretch I think.

It is important to prioritize the entry of large files from Excel. Xlsx. Many processes depend on these entries in the ETLs. Please help.

It's awesome to see that I got to contribute with something - even if it was only identifying a problem, and not solving it. Ongoing congrats to all who work to make Pentaho Kettle this awesome ETL tool. And congrats on this new stable build released!

    Hi Matt,
i've downloaded 4.2 and unzipped it on a solaris machine.
When i run kitchen.sh i get the error:
    kitchen.sh: -: does not exist

I can't find anything regarding this problem in the forum
Guessing it's a problem with finding Java. Funny thing is that version 3.2 has been working perfect for 2 years now.
    It fails when reaching setPentahoEnv

    Kind regards, Met vriendelijk groet,

    Robin

There is a call to cd - in the scripts somewhere (I forget where) which Solaris shell doesn't support. Switch to a bash shell, and it will work happily.

The "Excel writer" step supports Excel 2007.
