    Default Community Replacements?

    In presenting BIserver for some potential users, I notice that both WAQR (Ad Hoc Reporting) and JPivot (Analysis) are showing as depreciated components.

    While there is Saiku to replace Analysis, there is no CE replacement that I can find for WAQR
    A number of my clients require the use of Open Source Software, so using the proprietary versions (Pentaho Analyzer, Pentaho Interactive Reports) are not options.

    Can anyone guide me toward replacements, or should I start looking at other Open Source BI solutions?

    The saiku team is also working on a replacement for the ad-hoc reporting !
    but it is still under dev and i'm not sure when it will be GA.
    but for the time being you can still use WAQR.

    Hi

    Pentaho declared JPivot ( and WAQR ) as deprecated without defining a successor in the roadmap.
    Does anybody know what this will mean? Any known plans ?

    In earlier releases biserver CE was a FULL suite I was able to show customers as a real alternative
    to some commercial products. Now I have to show Pentaho + Saiku ( + CTools ) ... which is technically a
    really good combination i am very convinced of, but it is not one peace of software anymore. More and more
    I have to recognize that my customers are getting unhappy about the future of the biserver-CE.

    Regards
    Peter

    So, lemme see if I got this straight.

    You lot are complaining because now you have *exactly* the same you had before plus 2 awesome alternatives (Ctools, which are, indeed, an entire universe) and Saiku?

    Jpivot was *never* developed or maintained by pentaho and WAQR is a POS that never passed the prototype stage. The only difference... is a warning message that you can remove

    You can easy get rid of the deprecated messages:
    for jPivot, open/pentaho/server/biserver-ee/tomcat/webapps/pentaho/jsp/pivot.jsp,search for the div with the depracatedWarning id and comment it out completely
    for adHoc, open /pentaho/server/biserver-ee/tomcat/webapps/pentaho/adhoc/waqr.html and do the same

    before you make changes, stop the server, and restart it when you're done. You can of course also delete the entire section instead of commenting it out

    if you don't know how to comment something out: put <!-- in front of the section and --> at the end, e.g. the adHoc div would look like this:

    <!--<td valign="middle" id="waqrDeprecatedAlert"style="padding-right: 5px">
    <tablewidth="580px" style="background-color: #fffdd5;border-style: solid; border-color: #dcb114; border-width= 1px; font:normal .85em Tahoma, 'Trebuchet MS', Arial">
    <tr>
    <td>
    <imgsrc="images/warning.png"/>
    </td>
    <td>
    WebAd Hoc Query and Reporting has been replaced by the new InteractiveReporting client.<br/>
    Itis provided as a convenience but will no longer be enhanced oroffically supported by Pentaho.
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </td>-->

    Also, pentaho wont actually remove jpivot unless it was completely broken or something cause then they would loose 90% of their Mondrian users, and if they removed WAQR they'd loose 99% of their metadata users. Which admittedly don't make them any money, but do find all the bugs that would otherwise show up in only the EE users issues

    Oh - I think I have to clarify my posting :

    First of all - I am not complaining about anything. I only cited my customers who were not pleased
    to see "deprecated" messages on a production system.

    We removed the messages already but some kind of discussion was started.
    Please recognize my posting as a feedback from end-users !

    In these discussions we mentioned Saiku as well as CTools but it would
    have been extremly helpful for argumenting pro-pentaho to find something in the overall roadmap.

    To clarify this again : For myself I am extremly happy with Saiku+CTools and the whole stuff !

    I apologize if I implied that I was complaining...
    I strictly meant to ask "What should I be using in place of the previous versions"

    Saiku replaces JPivot and then some - I'm really impressed by it.
    ?? replaces WAQR - I haven't found it yet.

    I love the CTools, even though I haven't made it much past CDF
    I find the contribution that you (Pedro) and your C* cohort have made has been very impressive, I just want to know which pieces I need to install where to get similar to where I was with Pentaho BI 3.5 where it looked like JPivot and WAQR were going to be continued as projects for quite a while.

    What?! That sounds fantastic! Any more news on the saiku ad-hoc project? Pentaho has taken a lot of work to get to work right, but the end result is pretty good for my clients. It may be free for me, but I have pointed other people in the same direction which helps the Pentaho name get out there.

    A preview of saiku adhoc reporting can be found at http://adhoc.analytical-labs.com/ Please do not report bugs on that version, as it is not up to date.
    If you'd like to check out the latest version go and download from http://ci.analytical-labs.com/job/saiku-adhoc-plugin/

    Any bugreports on the latest version, requests and ideas are welcome and should be reported to
    http://github.com/Mgiepz/saiku-adhoc

    I can't promise a date for a stable or ga release yet as a lot of things are still under developement

    MGie, that looks GREAT!

    I will have to add it to my demo kit, and see how it plays...

    Thank you to both the Saiku people and to the C*Tools people - they have done a TONNE of work on these things.

    I would like to add that seeing a big message part of your favorite app (not supported and deprecated) is a rude thing if you're unpacking and looking for new things in your new downloaded release. Remember that users does not think of modules its all a big pile of software.

    The guys (maybe) in marketing should write more appropiate copy material.

    Yes, it's easy to remove the message (I modified the css) but why make us work if no alternative is availble and included, at least suggested.

    Not looking to bother anyone, just a point of view.

    Default saiku-adhoc doesn't work

    I put the unpacked saiku-adhoc-plugin-2.2-SNAPSHOT.zip from http://ci.analytical-labs.com/job/saiku-adhoc-plugin/ into the pentaho-solution/system.
    I restart the biserver-ce and run File >New > Saiku-Adhoc.
    I still see Loading... and in Firebug I see GET http://localhost:8080/pentaho/content/saiku-adhoc/rest/discover/pl 302 Moved Temporarily

    Windows Vista, Firefox 10, biserver-ce 3.9.0/ 4.1.0

    Hi Orkan!
    First check if you can see metadata models in the WAQR Tool.
    Also check if there is some stacktrace-information in pentaho.log (if so, post it)

    Another topic (probably not related to your problem):
    There might be some confusion with the libraries responsible for CDA-Access.
    Have a look at you pentaho/web-inf/lib directory and check if there is a file that begins with
    pentaho-reporting-engine-classic-extensions-cda-...
    Also look at the version number of the reporting engine. If the reporting-engine has a version 3.8.x
    download the jar file from
    http://github.com/Mgiepz/saiku-adhoc/tree/master/lib
    and put it in the lib-folder
    if the reporting engine is a newer trunk-version, copy the jar file from the plugin's lib folder to
    web-inf/lib

    cheers,

    mgie

    Default Still not working

    The models Human, Resources, Inventory Orders exists in WAQR
    Not found pentaho-reporting-engine-classic-extensions-cda-... jar in web-inf/lib.
    I copy the jar file from the plugin's lib folder to web-inf/lib.
    I see again Loading...

    just for completeness... try again, deleting the jar from web-inf and put the one from the github http://github.com/Mgiepz/saiku-adhoc/tree/master/lib in.

    do you see anything suspicious in the catalina logs?

    When I installed Saiku-adhoc for testing, I did the same steps:
    1. Download Saiku-adhoc ZIP from CI
    2. Unzip file into %BI_HOME%/pentaho-solutions/system
    3. Restart BIServer

    However I got data access errors when I started
    To get around this, I installed CDA, and everything worked happily.

    I develop the plugin on 3.10 but i just downloaded 3.9, dropped in the latest saiku-adhoc from today and didn't get into the error Orkan describes. What goes wrong is the first query due to
    a) No CDA in the standard bi-server -> use ctools installer
    b) no CDA-PRD datasource -> drop either pentaho-reporting-engine-classic-extensions-cda-3.8-SNAPSHOT.jar (for all 3.8 reporting engines)
    or pentaho-reporting-engine-classic-extensions-cda-TRUNK-SNAPSHOT.jar (if youre working with trunk bi-server).

    I'am afraid but i can't reproduce Orkans problem

  20. #20

    Default still the same problem

    Nothing change after install the cda and lib for 3.8

    I have added to the incorrect link userid and password and have placed it to browser
    http://localhost:8080/pentaho/conten...sword=password

    Now I have the correct answer (attachment answer.txt)

    In saiku plugin this problem not exists (see, please, attachment saiku_firebug_console).
