    Default Default value for variables

    Hi,

i am wondering if there is any default value for variables handling ...
like ${VAR:-12} in UNIX Shell for example.

    Any Ideas ?

    Thanks a lot

Do you mean Variables, Parameters, or Arguments ( 3 different things )?
If you mean variable, the "Set Variables" step type allows you to set default values.

I mean variables - in my transformation I use a variable for the JNDI name in connections.
This transformation will be called by a job that sets the JNDI name variable later on.

When designing the transformation, kettle is not able to determine the attributes of an "sql input step",
because it doesn't know about the connection to use, so I would like to have a default value
for it pointing to a default JNDI source.

I found a workaround : there is an option in spoon to edit the environment manually ( Press Ctrl-Alt-J )
When I define my default values there I am able to work as needed.

    Hi Peter,

Or you can define the default variables using kettle.properties file in .ssh folder

    cheers
