Thread: multiple xmi files

    Default multiple xmi files

I have read in the documentation that you can only have one metadata.xmi file (and only with this name) per solution. on the internet you find people saying that you can have multiple files in different subfolders. but I do not see a way of how to publish from metadata editor to subfolders.

maybe somebody here can shed some light on what is possbile or not.

From metadata editor, when you publish your business model(s), you can choose a location ("Publish location"). Using different locations (subfolders in your pentaho-solution directory), you can publish more than one metadata.xmi file.

thanks for the response. but when I do so I get following error: Location must be a solution directory name.
this is what I entered in "Publish Location":

and here is the directory listing:

    [root@chzrh0spsv0132 Swissport]# ll
    total 892
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 pentaho pentaho 155 Jan 26 12:44 index.xml
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 pentaho pentaho 855390 Mar 27 09:26 metadata.xmi
    drwxrwsr-x 6 pentaho pentaho 4096 Mar 26 09:11 PIMS
    [root@chzrh0spsv0132 Swissport]#

it does work if I publish to "Swissport" without the subfolder.

You should not create a sundirecoty of your solution (Swissport) but a new solution directory in parallel to Swissport.

    something like:

    ll pentaho-solutions
    drwxrwsr-x 6 pentaho pentaho 4096 Mar 26 09:11 PIMS
    drwxrwsr-x 6 pentaho pentaho 4096 Mar 26 09:11 Swissport

thank you very much. this works.

as workaround this is fine for me, although I have at the highest level in the solution folder the name of our company and then below it the (say) applications. if I can not use subfolders, then theoretically I could remove the top level (company) and have the applications there instead, but then the company would miss and we have different companies.

but then maybe I am not on the right track: would one put models for multiple (or all) metadata schemas in one xmi file? is this wise? and maybe a philosophical question: why does meatdata editor allow to specify a different filename in the publish dialog.

    thanks again for your help.
