Thread: VFS FTP Passive mode

  1. #1

    Default VFS FTP Passive mode

I have a transformation that uses VFS FTP connection details within a few steps. The transformation runs great on my local machine but hangs when attempting to run from our dev server. Based on my discussion with our IT team Pentaho/Apache(?) is most likely defaulting to Active mode for FTP which is getting blocked. Is there anyway to tell Pentaho/Apache to use Passive mode? Can I possibly set it as a global default? Or can it be supplied in the URI (?vfs.passive=true)? And if so how can that work with wildcards and such?

    Thanks in advance!

    Try it this way: http://infocenter.pentaho.com/help/t...fs_params.html
    in combination with http://wiki.apache.org/commons/VfsFaq

might be working with the parameter vfs.ftp.PassiveMode = true

    Give it a try!

Thanks for your help! Looking at the 2 links you provided and have a quick question. I understand that I would create a new parameter called "vfs.ftp.PassiveMode" and set the value to "true" BUT what I don't understand is how I would utilize this value in the transformation steps? Would I try to add this to the URI? Or am I thinking about it all wrong and just by adding this parameter the transformation will attempt to use Passive mode for ftp when ever it is using VFS?

The latter is correct: "just by adding this parameter the transformation will attempt to use Passive mode for ftp when ever it is using VFS"

    Great, thanks for the feedback.
We will add it to the doc section.
