    Question BI server documentaion

I have downloaded pdi-ce-4.2.1-stable.zip and started to read through the BI server documentation to set things up.
I am already stuck because the documentation immediately refers me to the directory:
    bi-server/tomcat/bin
    http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/Serv...indows+service

I do not see a tomcat directory in the archive.
Have I downloaded the wrong archive, or has the directory structure changed, or is there a better beginners guide I could be using?

    Hi,
you have to download the dile biserver-ce-4.5.0-stable.zip. There you have the folder bi-server/tomcat/bin.

    bye

You have downloaded the Pentaho Data Integration CE distribution, so yes. You've downloaded the wrong thing. Look for the biserver-ce distribution.

    Got the right one now.
still trying to install and I'm experiencing the error ''unable to open service tomcat6'',
The tip in the documentation has not helped resolve it.
    any ideas?

If you've downloaded the CE version, then it's simply a .zip file and a pre-configured tomcat. But there is no service installed - that gets done by the BI Server EE installer, not CE. So after you unzip the CE version, just run the start-pentaho.bat (or start-pentaho.sh if in Linux) to start the server. Then go to http://localhost:8080/pentaho to start playing around.

When I click start-pentaho.bat a dos window briefly flashes up and then disappears, but no page is returned when i visit localhost:8080/pentaho
Is there any other way to check that the server is running.

I'm still unable to start BI server.
I have tried it on my work pc now too, and got the same result.
When I click start-pentaho.bat a dos window flashes then closes, but no page can be found at http://localhost:8080/pentaho

Has anyone got any ideas please?

If you edit start-penatho.bat and add the line
    pause

to the end of it, it will stick around, and you will be able to see what it is complaining about.

Usually, it will complain about not being able to find Java.

thanks a lot, I see this when I add pause...

    WARNING: Using Java from Path
    DEBUG: _PENTAHO_JAVA_HOME=
    DEBUG: _PENTAHO_JAVA=java.exe
